Question

(a) Routing is performed in the domain shown in figure Q1 using OSPF in multi areas configuration. The links in solid line, between routers R1, R2, R3 and network N1, belong to Area 0, and the lnks in dashed line, between routers R3, R4, R5 and network N2, belong to Area 1. (i)Define what information router R4 would advertise in its Router Links LSA [4 marks] (ii)Identify a key difference that could be observed between the Router Links [3 marks] Database in routers Rl and R3. (iii) What information will be available to router R5 to find a route to Network N1? [3 marks] R5 R3 R4 Figure Q1

Explanation / Answer

Answer is as follows:

We know that the given network diagram is in OSPF structure i.e. Open Shortest Path First means find the shortest path for transmission that is not busy or closed. So the answers for the given questions are as follows :

1) information that R4 router contains if it is in LSA i.e. Link State Advertisements.

The LSA router advertise the data about neighbouring routers, stub network , virtual network and transient netwotrk routers

So here if R4 is LSA router tupe than it contains Peer to Peer Connection with R3 and R5 router.

Here the Stub network is Area 1.

The Transient network is N1.

I can't found any virtual network.

So It contains Link type i.e. Peer to Peer or Stub network or Transient network and their description.

And than it contains the IP address of Peer Nodes , transient network and Subnet Number for Area 1 Stub network.

And it also contain the Subnet mask of Stub network.

2) Difference between R1 and R3 :

The key diffrence b/w both that R1 only works in area 1 i.e. local router and limits upto only R3.

but R3 is globally assigned for the network means it works both for area 1 and area 2. R3 acts as intermediate router or link router for both areas.

3) Information available to R5 for N1 :

The information contained by router R5 for reaching upto N1 is just about R3 router because it is intermediate router for both areas. Than further it is resposibility of router R3 to find open path to send the data to N1 i.e. via R1 or R2.
