Reflect on information about the overall methods of Implementation and Maintenance as the last two phases of the (SDLC) systems development life cycle.

Reflection will include:
• A summary of the individual learning experiences about the overall methods of implementation and maintenance.

• A description of the process of coding, testing, and converting an organizational information system.

• An outline of the organizational information system and how this system is easily divided for projects.

• A comparison of the many modes available for organizational information system training (Note: also include self-training and electronic performance support systems).

• An analysis of threats to system security and remedies that can be applied and examples of how traditional implementation issues apply to electronic commerce applications.

• An analysis about the methods of implementation and maintenance and the skills that students need to develop or improve upon for future work on Systems Analysis and Design Projects. For example, process of coding, testing, preparing a test plan for an information system, understanding the many modes available for organizational information system training, understand why implementation sometimes fails, and understand the many threats.

Explanation / Answer

First of all lets have a brief introduction on SDLC, it stands for Software Development life Cycle.It is basically a process to develop a software.There are many SDLC model like, Waterfall, iterative, Spiral,V-model etc.

SDLC has different phases like requirement gathering, designing, implementation , coding and maintenance are among them.

Lets start with Implementation phase:

   It includes deploying the product/software to actual environment and training the end user.

As after this phase product will go live so there are many prerequisite we should check like:

   a.check all testing is done properly

   b. Check performance risk: identify the risk then analyse it and prepare a response plan.

   c.review Security plan

   d. Training plan

   e.Confirm Documentation

   f. Review performance

In this phase training is one of the most important aspect as now you are going to handover the product to customer, as a product developer its our responsibility to train the end user , it can be one -two-one , digitally(webinars),notes , document, self training etc. Getting regular feedback from trainee about the training about how effective the training going is also a part.

Lets look into few of them

   1. electronic performance support systems: it helps an organisation to reduce the cost of training staff and increasing productivity and performance. In this they have minimum external intervention .In this they have user interface shell, generic tools, application specific support tool.

   2.Self learning : it is a learning process where you learn while doing work and reading documents etc while solving the issue.

Next main concern is security:

   it includes 1.Security Training & Awareness

          2.Building Security Requirements

          3.Secure Implementation & Coding

          4. Security Verification or Testing

In electronic commerce applications one of the basic security concern is Transaction which needs to be addressed may be by using digital signature (DSA-algorithm)

The main reasons of failure of implementation are:

1.Not Defining Clear Objectives

2.Poor planning

3.lack of training and skills

4. Erroneous code

5. Unstable hardware / software/network

6. Wrong prediction

7.wrong sessions regarding choosing tools etc

Maintenance is one of the most important phase in SDLC as it this phase we enhance the product and make it more efficient . To make it more future proof. And adding new functionality according to new requirement of business/product.As your product is live now and thousands of people are using it So its very common that bugs will come so we need to solve those bugs also comes in maintain phase for this we may need to train people also who will handle the bugs.

We should make sure that trainee should know the following points :

   a. full capabilities of the system

   b. the required changes or the additional requirements

   c .studying the performance.

PS: for every phase of SDLC there may have a separate team like for coding, for testing, for requirement gathering etc
