Question
On February 15, 2018 Wallace Williams and Bruce Roberts entered into a contract whereby Wallace, a professional musician, agreed to perform at Bruce's hotel in Cayman Islands for the week of July 1-7, 2018 and Bruce agreed to pay Wallace $25,000 USD for performing. In early May, Wallace had a hit single that virtually overnight on iTunes made him a star who could command at least $75,000 USD for a one week engagement. On June 1st, Wallace telephoned Bruce demanding $ 75,000 USD for his July 1-7, 2018 performances. Bruce told Wallace that "a deal is a deal" and would not agree to pay Wallace more than the previously agreed $ 25,000 USD.
If Wallace's eighteenth (18th) birthday was June 1st, 2018, would he have been entitled to refuse the contract?
Explanation / Answer
A verbal contract is just as legally enforceable as a written contract.
In this scenario he would not be entitled to refuse the contract as he had agreed before he became a star.
