Question
You are a well-known expert in the design and security of corporate network infrastructures. As such, Z Corporation, Inc. (ZCorp) has contacted you and is requesting a proposal for a network infrastructure integration design.
ZCorp is a global financial institution that intends to add Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) to its existing network. The headquarters of ZCorp is in Denver, CO and it also has main offices in Sydney, Australia, Vienna, Austria, Tokyo, Japan, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Local routers are providing network services such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), network address translation (NAT), and Domain Name System (DNS). It is using Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) as its interior gateway protocol and Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP) as its exterior gateway protocol. Its wide area network (WAN) involves multiple T3 connections and the use of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). It is unclear to the ZCorp information technology (IT) staff whether they should replace Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) with IPv6 or use both versions of IP (dual-stack operation).
Your mission is to prepare a proposal document that makes a recommendation for either replacing IPv4 with IPv6 or using both version of IP. This recommendation must be supported and explained in detail. Research IPv4 and IPv6 to understand differences, benefits, and challenges. Seek information regarding LANs implementing dual protocol stacks. Make a recommendation for a) replacing IPv4 with IPv6; b) using IPv4 and IPv6 together (dual-stack operation). Support your recommendation.
Your proposal should specify a phased approach for your recommendation. You should include the following considerations in your document:
Benefits of implementing IPv6, especially in the area of security
Potential issues and concerns with IPv6
Whether or not to continue the use of network services with IPv6
Necessary changes to existing hardware with IPv6
Other resource factors
High level set of steps to implement your recommendation including IP addressing scheme
Explanation / Answer
PROPOSAL FOR IMPLEMENTING IPV6
ABSTRACT:
The following paper shows the importance of Ipv6 in a network which has multiple advantages over ipv4 network. It is extremely important to use Ipv6 in out network to overcome the barriers posed by ipv4.A part from this there are various functionalities of Ipv6 including a large number of Ip addresses which is extremely important in today's world since the internet is growing extremely fast and more number of users are joining the internet. As a result this must be implemented as soon as possible for a business to flourish with more users and customers associated with it.
Advantages of IPV6 and its implementation
The following are the various advantages of ipv6.These include:
1) It provides a large amount of address space .it uses uses 128 bits for IPv6 addresses which allows for 340 billion billion billion billion (3.4x1038) unique addresses. If the internet is to develop naturally, it is going to need more unique IP addresses. IPv6 solves that.
2) Client-side IP address assignment, no need for DHCP
In ipv6 the addresses can be assigned automatically and dynamically by the client device, meaning that there is no need for a DHCP server like there is with IPv4.
3) It provides multiple network addresses assigned can be assigned to a same device. It helps the user to connect to multiple networks at the same time.
4) It provides encryption and ipsecurity:The communications are secured at the lowest level possible, via IPsec, each packet that gets sent has to be decrypted for it to be interpreted.
5) There are no checksums resulting in a better performance:, IPv6 gets rid of checksum verification. Since everything or almost everything sent via IPv6 networks has its own error-control mechanism, there was no need for one at the IP-level.
6) It provides better end to end conenctivity as IPv6 with its large address space no longer requires NAT and can ensure true end-to-end connectivity.
7) It provides betetr quality of service:QoS is given a special boost in the IPv6 protocol with the IPv6 header containing a new field, called Flow Label field that defines how particular packets are identified and handled by the routers. The Flow Label field allows packets that belong to a particular flow, in other words, that start from a particular host and head to a particular destination, to be identified and handled quickly and efficiently by the routers.
Conclusion:
This shows the varuous advantages of ipv6. As a result it must be implemented and ipv4 should be removed or replaces by ipv6.This will help the users to grow and more users to conenct to the network. As a result of this the network will be better with a better security and making sure all the users connect to it in the right way and perform the tasks in the quickest manner.
