Question

Where are the Solutions for spreadsheets A, B, C, and D? For Problem 3, the primary keys should be underlined and the foreign keys italicized. For 3.E, each project should be able to hold many employees. But the given assumption states that employees can be assigned to more than one project. This is similar to students enrolling in more than one course.

The following spreadsheets (A - E) each have a name and certain columns. (You have to imagine what the data might be.) Answer questions 1 - 3 below for each of the spreadsheets.

A.Name of spreadsheet: EQUIPMENT
     Column Headings:
           Number, Description, AcquisitionDate, AcquisitionPrice

B.Name of spreadsheet: COMPANY
     Column headings:
           Name, IndustryCode, GrossSales, OfficerName, OfficerTitle
Assumption: Companies belong to industries. For example, Wal-Mart and Target belong to the retail industry.

C.Name of spreadsheet: COMPANY
     Column headings:
           Name, IndustryCode, GrossSales, NameOfPresident

D.Name of spreadsheet: COMPUTER
     Column Headings:
           SerialNumber, Make, Model, DiskType, DiskCapacity
Assumption: Each computer has its own serial number.

E.Name of spreadsheet: PERSON
     Column Headings:
Name, DateOfHire, DeptName, DeptManager, ProjectID, NumHours, ProjectManager
Assume that employees can be assigned to more than one project. This is similar to students enrolling in more than one course.

Question 1: For each spreadsheet (A - E), indicate the number of themes you think the spreadsheet includes and give an appropriate name for each theme. For some of them, the answer may depend on the assumptions you make. In these cases, state your assumptions.

Question 2: For any spreadsheet (A - E) that has more than one theme, show at least one modification problem that will occur when inserting, updating, or deleting data. Use specific column names to describe each problem.

Question 3: For any spreadsheet (A - E) that has more than one theme, break up the columns into tables such that each table has a single theme. Add ID columns if necessary, and add a linking column (or columns) to maintain the relationship between the themes. Use the table representation shown in the Study Guide and in class (not shown in Chapter 1 of the textbook, but will be in Chapter 2), like this:

STUDENT (StudentLastName, StudentFirstName, StudentEmail, Phone,

Explanation / Answer

Hi as per chegg rules when multiple questions are asked first question has to be answered...
Please post the other questions individually.

Question 1: For each spreadsheet (A - E), indicate the number of themes you think the spreadsheet includes and give an appropriate name for each theme. For some of them, the answer may depend on the assumptions you make. In these cases, state your assumptions.

Solution)

A)Name of the spreadsheet: EQUIPMENT

Column headings:

Number, Description, AcquisitionDate, AcquisitionPrice

The data columns given in the spreadsheet suggest that they contain data for
real world entity 'equipments".

Therefore spreadsheet contains a theme that is Equipment.

Other possible theme may be 'Acquisition" containing the data and price of an equipment's Acquisition containing the data and price of an equipment's  Acquisition.

Hence there are two themes namely:
1. Equipment
2. Acquisition

B. Name of the spreadsheet: COMPANY

Column headings: Number, IndustryCode, Gross Sales ,OfficersName, OfficerT1tle.

There are two themes namely
1. Company
2. Officer

1. Company: It contains the data for various companies and their IndustryCode, Gross Sale and Officers.

2. Officer. It contains the data of the Officers of various companies and their Title as well as their Company name.

C) Name of the spreadsheet: COMPANY

Column headings:
Number, IndustryCode, Gross Sales, NameOfPresident.

The data columns given in the spreadsheet suggest that they contain data for real world entity
'Company". Therefore spreadsheet contains only single theme that is Company.

D)Name of the spreadsheet: COMPUTER

Column headings: SerialNumber, Make,Model, Disk Type, DiskCapacity

The data columns given in the spreadsheet suggest that they contain data for real world entity 'computers".
Therefore spreadsheet contains only single theme that is Computer.

E) Name of the spreadsheet: PERSON

Column headings: Number, DateOfHire,DeptName,DeptManager,ProjectlD,NumHours,ProjectManager.

The data columns given in the spreadsheet suggest that they contain data for three real world entities •person', •department' and •project'.
Assuming that every department has at least one person working in it and every project has at least one person working on it

Given spreadsheet contains three themes namely
1. Person
2. Department
3. Project

1. Person: It contains the data for the Person including name, date Oh hire, its department.

2. Department: It contains the data for the department like its name, manager and employees working in each department.

3. Project: It contains the data of the project like its ID, number of hours the project is allotted, its Manager and various persons under this.
