Explanation / Answer
Learning Android seems like very difficult, as Android is very vast. Sometimes we get confused as from where do we get started. I have some Ideas about a light weight project in Android, you can take help from that.
IDEA: An Android app which would be benificial for society, basically using this app we would be able to help the children who are in need of something. suppose I have that app and I see somewhere that the childrens/ poor people are not having cloths to wear OR they are hungry, so the app would allow me to take a photo of the place and post this in feed of user that "there are some childrens who are hungry, if anyone has extraa food can donate" and give the app will take you location.
No when other user checks the app, he would see a post ( which is posted by you) so if luckily if he is at the location where the children are and if he has some extra food, he can donate. so this would help our society to grow.

SO basically this app would contain the modules:
Basically it will solve all your purpose of making an light weight app and it would also help you to learn Android. I think there must be apps like this, you can search on github and other repositories. Any other help needed, you can comment down and I'll help you.
