NAME THAT TORT Read the situation and provide the tort that is illustrated. Is the tort an intentional tort, negligence, or strict liability? At a local sports bar, a disgruntled Packer fan stands on a bar stool and yells: "The quarterback is a lousy, rotten, two-faced SOB." Same facts as above, but this time the Packer fan is the quarterback's former personal physician and he goes to a New York sports bar and yells: "The quarterback only succeeded in Green Bay because I kept him supplied with steroids and performance enhancing cocktails." The doctor's goal is to try to destroy the quarterback's reputation in order to get back at him for dumping the physician in favor of team doctors.

Explanation / Answer

This is an intentional tort because the packer fan who actually tries to destroy the reputation of a player is the former physician of the player and he is getting indulged in such an act because he is trying to seek revenge because the player dumped the physician in factor of team doctors. The act is very much intentional and he claims to supply him steroids and performance enhancers in order to make him look like a corrupted individual and that is the objective, to ruin the image.
