Question
You own a business in the Boston Industrial Park. Your business, Milton’s Super Staplers (a
stapler manufacturer), owns the real estate (the land) and the buildings on the property. You rent
a portion of your space to another business. Your property is directly next to a vacant lot in the
Industrial Park.
Last week you noticed people walking through the vacant lot, marking trees and spraying the
ground with spray paint. You are hoping that someone is building a facility on the lot, as you
believe it will increase the value of the property you own.
Yesterday at least five (5) construction vehicles were on the lot and workers began to
cut down the few remaining trees. As you arrived to your building Tuesday morning, you noticed
two (2) Bobcats and a dump truck on the far side of your parking lot, closest to the vacant lot.
You were not concerned. You expected that the workers did not know the parking lot was not
owned by the vacant lot owners. You put up signs that say “Employee Parking Only”.
Two days later the vehicles were still there and your signs were gone.
Write a letter to the owner of the vacant lot, a Mr. William Lumberg, detailing your response to
this issue. You will be graded on the professionalism of your letter adhering to the elements
discussed in class: care, courtesy, and conventions.

To
Mr. William Lumberg,
Boston Industrial Park.
Dear Mr. Lumberg,
Hope this letter finds you in good health.
I understand that work is in progress in your vacant land in the Boston Industrial Park. I hope that your construction project is carried out seamlessly.
I would like to bring to your attention that your construction vehicles and the Bobcats are parked in the parking lot of our business. Since the parking lot is exclusively meant for the employees of Super Staplers, I request you to remove the vehicles from our parking lot for the convenience of our employees. We have also installed the sign “Employee parking only” in our parking lot. However, they have been removed unauthorized. The construction vehicles have limited the parking lot space making it congested for our employees to park the vehicles. It causes great inconvenience for our employees.
As the owner of the vacant lot, I believe that you would take necessary action to remove the encroachment in our office parking space.
Your immediate attention on this matter would be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Best Regards,
Jason Williams
