Question

Project Information Due Date: (end of Module 6) Course Project – Choose option 1 or 2. 1. Analysis of an IS – approach an organization, ask for permission to see a working IS, and interview the employees who were involved in the initiation and development of the system. Possibly interview managers, developers, and daily users. Interview questions should include but are not limited to: What was the problem/opportunity that prompted the development of the system? Who was involved in the development (top management, middle managers, user, IS professionals), and what roles did each group of people play? What development approach was used (traditional SDLC, extreme programming [XP], other)? What do the different groups think about the system? Has it met expectations? What would the students improve in the system? Does the system meet any strategic goals? Write a report based on your findings. 2. Analysis of an IS implementation – This project is similar to the above, but deals with a purchased/licensed application. Therefore, should skip analysis of development and focus on the process of selecting the application among all potential applications that serve the same purpose. Approach an organization and interview the employees who were involved in the implementation and selection of the system. Possibly interview managers, developers, and daily users. Interview questions should include but are not limited to: Who initiated the exploration of implementing the new system? What ROI analysis was performed? What was the selection process? How was the decision made to implement this particular system? What has been the experience with this system so far? Write a report based on your findings. Guidelines: Reports must be a minimum of 1200 words, correct spelling/grammar. Any sources used must be properly documented. MLA writing style preferred. You must provide some sort of proof that you visited or spoke with a member or members of an organization. This can include an email to me from the person you interviewed, a copy of an email exchange between you and the interviewee setting up the interview, a copy of their signed business card, etc.

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER-

COURSE PROJECT-1

(ANALYSIS OF INFORMATION SYSTEM)

in this project i will study the approach 1 which is analysis of information sytem in a assumed organization for example FMCG company of dairy products-

so, as the company is manufactuting the dairy products like ice cream, milk, yougart, cream, cheese etc.the turnover is very big & data is one thing which is very important to them to know their market share, profits, revenues etc.

to analyse the information system of this company i would interview some persons which were involved in the initiation & development of the sytem. we will interview the following

MANAGERS, DEVELOPERS & DAILY USERS were asked following questions & answers to them-

question- 1 What was the problem/opportunity that prompted the development of the system?

answer- manager was asked this question & he replied that as big manufacturing company of dairy products the company in transacting in many areas like production, transportation, finance, marketing etc. data was so huge that a human mind can not process that on thier own. as other company small or big are adopting technology to do thier daily tasks like reports, decision making etc. so we see this as an opportunity to make the same to for our company. so we asked the IS companies to develope a system to handle & process our company's data & make it cost efficient.

question 2- Who was involved in the development (top management, middle managers, user, IS professionals) ? and what roles did each group of people play?

answer- top managent was only involved in making decision regarding the cost, purchase, benefits, startegies etc to develope this sytem. they were the decision maker for the implementation of the IS.

middle managemnt was involved in desgining the requirements of the sytem like what type of data will be used in the sytem, what should be the working & processing of the system etc. middle management plays the role of making the blueprint of the system.

users were the actually the persons who were using those system like

IS professionals were the actual developer of that system who design & develope the whole system in the company. they are also responsible for its implementation, maintenance & checkup of the system on routine wise.

question 3- What development approach was used (traditional SDLC, extreme programming [XP], other)?

the approach to develope the system was bit of mix of system developement life cycle as well as programming. SDLC helped to analyse the requirement, system desgin, testing, implementing & its manintenence & programming helped to write the code to cover all those needs & requirements.

question 4-  What do the different groups think about the system? Has it met expectations?

answer- most of the groups in the company like young & middle aged generation thinks that information system is a great idea becasue it helped themin doing so many jobs in less time & increased thier efficiency to work. but some aged group who does not understand technology was against it. but at the end of the day IS met the expectation what is meant for.

question 5- What would the students improve in the system?

answer- from point of view of a student, IS should be highly secure to breach. system should be kept private from public networks. sytem should be easy to understand & work for any fresher in the company.

* i have given more than 4 answers of your project. hope this will help you in your project.good luck
