Question

You work at a high school as a teacher delivering courses for building computer skills. In addition, you help to support the computing needs of the high school working with the one IT person who recently accepted a job at a different school. The high school is in the process of hiring a new IT person. The timing could not have been worse as the high school is involved in a big project to improve their information systems and technology. You were asked to join a discussion between the high school administration and information system vendors on the information and technology needs at the high school based upon your background, education, and experience. In preparation for the upcoming meeting, you received an e-mail from the principal with questions about the project: Why should we have separate databases and a data warehouse? Why don't we just have one large database for all our data, both current and historical? How would we use a data warehouse, and how would it help this high school? Are there other information systems we should consider? How would a mobile wireless network impact the educational process here? In a 1,500–1,750-word e-mail response, provide detailed answers to their questions including a recommendation for the high school's technology plan. Make sure your paper is written in the APA style and fully supports your opinion and arguments you make. Cite any sources you used to support your argument.

Explanation / Answer

* Why should we have separate databases and a data warehouse?

Data warehouse: With the help of the Data warehouse we can storage huge amount of historical records.

And we can also use them for the reporting purposes but in the database we can only access the current day to online transaction processing.

And in other words the data in data warehouse is not supposed to be update but its used only for insertion and it should happen into data warehouse only.

The data can be used as analysis purpose and also for transactions only when the current data should become part of data warehouse and we should define the time period.

The important thing is that in Database the data will kept in the normal format But in the data warehouse it is unnormalized to avoid and joins while generating huge reports to save time.

* Why don't we just have one large database for all our data, both current and historical?

IF we use large database then securing the data will be takes lots of time.
The security precautions will also be tighten when we use large amount of data.
In case of any failure or shutdown occures we can recover the large database and large data in given span of time.

* How would we use a data warehouse, and how would it help this high school?

- Data warehouses are internally stored in a completely different format compared to traditional databases.

- So There will be indexes and joins and relationships of students can stored and we analyse them and keep a record.

- By using features we can specific all the students information and their data into data warehouse provider and information architecture.

- In data warehouse the engines use the structures which are designed to work completely in memory and other engines use alternative storage mechanisms like column-oriented databases.

* Are there other information systems we should consider?

Databases are normal because there will be a lot of work done to guarantee the unique copy of nformation in which the important performance and consistency reasons are required.

But we can store different versions of information on a data warehouse and we can use them in different structures to compose and access the information.

The data warehouses are messier and more irregular, partly by design, as they need to be able to work with so many different sources of information.

* How would a mobile wireless network impact the educational process here?

If we use the mobile devices for simply taking photos and videos to share in class or recording homework to creating revision podcasts or animations.

Then The point often is student choice and encouraging independent learning and allowing students to choose what approach will suit them.

We have found that encouraging mobile device use has enabled our students to access resources that we cannot provide otherwise.

examples like students access the internet for research such as the internet or our department blogs/Facebook support page.
