In a server, the processor accounts for 50% of total server power, the memory system accounts for 20%, the disk accounts for 15%, and miscellaneous components account for the remaining 15%. A disk company invents a new technology A that reduces disk power by 100x without requiring an overhaul of the manufacturing process. They also identify an alternative technology B that can reduce disk power by 1000x, but that will require a billion-dollar overhaul of the manufacturing process. First of all let me say that both the product will be new, no doubt that 1000x will be hotter than 100x. so let's just get back to question. I think the company should mainly focus on building the technology A because still, the technology with 100x is new and it will cost less money for the company to build. Not only company cost get reduce consumers will also get benefited by that as it will cost less of money. When they will launch the 100x to customers they will get to know what flaws are present in their technology what improvements they need to do and it will help them to mature their product.

After the 100x product is launched the company should side by side think of making the 1000x product at a cheaper price because if the cost of the product is a way too high then there will very few users who will able to buy the product.

So i would conclude that for the present they just focus on polishing the 100x product and for the future purpose they should be a complete package of 1000x with less of cost.
