Question
explain the advantages and the reasons why an organization would use MST in their network environment instead of other versions of Spanning Tree. Are there any trade-offs when using MST when compared to other versions of Spanning Tree? Is MST really a net-new version of Spanning Tree or is it actually using one of the previous versions of Spanning Tree under the hood? Also give consideration to MST's applicability to multi-vendor environments and how it might solve interoperability issues. Note: Please provide sources
Explanation / Answer
some of the old switches which have only 64 STP instances which can run at the same time. This cannot run MST. to use MST you need some instances addition to IST. this Multiple Spanning Tree limits the usage of multiple VLANS like STP , RSTP.
This supports large networks by grouping bridges to regions.which appears to other device as a single bridge. This helps us optimizing the network facilitatng each VLAN with its own root bridge. No of control frames are resuced.
MST maps multiple VLANS into spanning tree,in which each instance independent of other topology have STP.
MST improves spanning tree operations and maintains compatability.
