Question

Find the voltage across the capacitor. (b) Find the voltage across R 2. (c) Find the current flowing through R 2. (d) What is the current flowing through in the branch with the capacitor when the capacitor is fully charged? (e) Based on (c) and (d), find the current flowing through R 1 and the voltage across (f) Finally, find the emf .Consider the left circuit. The emf source has negligible internal resistance. The resistors have resistances R 1 = 5 , R 2 = 3 The capacitor has capacitance C = 9.00 muF. The capacitor is already fully charged, the magnitude of the charge on its plates is Q = 27.0 muC.

Explanation / Answer

a) Q = CV

so V= 27.0 uC/9.0uF = 3 V

b) its in parallel with C so same voltage
3 V

c) V = IR
I = V/R = 3/3 = 1 A

d) since capacitor is fully charged, 0A

e) I1 = I2 = 1A

V1 = 1*5 = 5 V

f) emf = 3 + 5 = 8 V
