Question

What are some possible use cases for PortFast, BPDUGuard, and RootGuard and how would you apply these features/settings in an enterprise environment. You should also focus on why the two (2) Spanning Tree Toolkit features, namely UplinkFast and BackboneFast, are no longer needed when using Cisco’s Rapid Per-VLAN Spanning Tree (RPVST/RPVST+) and/or Multiple Spanning Tree (MST). Finally, while PortFast is not recommended for use on trunk ports, can you provide a use case for when you would want to have a trunk port with PortFast enabled Note: Please provide sources

Explanation / Answer

PortFast is used for connection to a single end and if it is connected to another layer e.g. Switch, there is a possibility that network loops are created.

Spanning tree is having a tree structure. Considering there is a single node on a top and let it as core switch , in middle layer there is an access to lots of switches and all other nodes are at the bottom.

Once the setup has been done , connect clients to an access switches and so to transit port to forwarding state configure portfast under interfaces. But in this state sometimes mishap of connecting two switchws to eachother occurs. To avoid this, connect cable which is on ground and gave it's outlet on wall, which will connect two switches , which leads as two branches are connected.

So, when a portfast is configured, ports go to forwarding state and make it a loop which results into circle else if ports are not portfast then one of them will go to block state.
