Because it is too costly and very convenient to take to any places they like.

For finding those missed laptops the controls like G mail or Drop box can be used.

If they run your laptop in any place then automatically your G mail account or Drop Box will store the Last IP address it was accessed.

So taking it you can file a complaint and that IP address will be reported to the Internet providers to find them.
