Discuss the topic of Business Intelligence (BI) and “Big Data.” Both terms are current industry buzzwords that explain the way organizations view data today as well as the changing structure of data today. It is important to recognize how a business views the importance of data today and how Information Technology (IT) can provide the technology tools to transform data into useful information to be used in the decision making process of an organization as well as analyze predictive trends which will assist organizations in the area of marketing and sales.

Why is business intelligence important to an organization? Does your organization (or an organization you are familiar with) use any BI tools?   You may use examples from your own organization or an organization you are familiar with to respond to the question.

Explanation / Answer

I worked as a big data developer for 3 months in an MNC. So it is fine to answer this question.

Business intelligence:

It is referred as a technology, an application.

It is used to collection, integration, analysis and presenting the business information.

It is used in decision making process for the betterment and for successfully running the business.

It helps the people in understanding the trends and derive insights.

Data warehousing and business intelligence collectively plays a crucial role in the business success.

Big Data:

Nowadays we are generating a trillion amount of data everyday by smart phones, sensors, cctv cameras, smart watches etc.

And the thing is we don’t need to waste this data simply and something has to be done on it to make it usable for the society.

And then here comes the concept of very big data called big data.

The practical examples are we will notice some advertisements listed in the sides of the page while you are browsing the net, If you keenly observe it you will come to know sometime you might have searched about it.

That happens how? That is the play done by Big data.

Then another example I can say in our office we will take the history of our marketing products in years. We will pass it in an algorithm using prediction factor by R languages etc.

Then we will come to know the expected sales volume in the coming years this is happening only die to the big data and its prediction algorithms called machine learning.

The BI tools we are using is Google Analytics.

Up to us many people using Google nowadays so; we planned to use its analytics tools to get best out of it.

By this tool we can able to understand the audience better, can easily track the source of audiences etc.

We can get a detailed report of everything visually that can be easily understandable like charts, bars etc.
