Question

Among the factors that might influence the choice of a software development process model, let us focus on two:

R: The degree to which the stakeholders and team members understand the stakeholders' requirements in the early days of the project.

A: the level of agreement that the team shares on the likely architecture of the system.

Consider the 4 extreme combinations of high/low values of R and A.

The team has past experience working under the waterfall model. For each of these four cases, should they stay with that model or consider moving to some other model?

low R, low A

high R, high A

low R, high A

high R, low A

For each, answer Stay or Change.

Explanation / Answer

Dear Student,

low R, low A: The team should change the model. This is because Waterfall Model requires better understanding of the requirements in the early days of the project . But, here R is low.

high R high A: The team should stay with the model. Here, there is high understanding of the requirement in the initial days as well as there is a high level of agreement between the teams regarding the architecture of the system.

low R, high A: The team should change the model. Although the level of agreement regarding the design is high but there is no clear understanding of the requirements in the initial days.

high R, low A: The team should change the model. There is a clear understanding of the requirements in the initial days but if the agreement regarging the design is low then there is high chance of the design getting changed. Waterfall model should not be used in those projects where there is a high risk of changing.
