Question

A department store has 100 customers per day. There are four types of customers: Type 1- Browse but don't buy Type 2- Needs help and makes a purchase Type 3-Needs help but don't buy Type 4-Buys without help 20%, 10%, 5%, and 65% of customers are Types 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively. The store employees one greeter (who greets every customer), two assistants (who deal with customers who need help), and two cashiers (who serve customers who purchase something. What is the total demand rate at the cashier per day?

Explanation / Answer

solution::

Type 1: Browse but don't buy.-20%

Type 2: Needs help and makes a prucshase-10%

Type 3: Needs help but don't buy-5%

Type 4: Buys without Help-65%

So let us assume that the customers who purchase the products turn out to be the demand for the product. In this case, type 2and type 4 customers are the only ones who make a purchase and they can be identified as the demand for the product. The total percentage of customers who make a purchase is 65%+10%=75%.

No. of customers making the purchase=Demand for the product

=75%.i.e out of every 100 people,75 people demand this product.
