Question

1. Assume that the administration of your college or university is contemplating creating a learning center that will offer math and English tutoring. To implement this program, offices will need to be created from classroom space, tutors will need to be paid from the Student Services program, and a director will need to be hired. Reaction to this center is mixed. As the president of a student organization, you have been asked to write a letter to the administration about your organization's position on the creation of the center A) Make a list of several possible points of view on this center. (consider, for example, the perspective of the admission office, IT services, maintenance, faculty and students). Be aware that different audiences may share both supportive and unsupportive views in the same topic for different reasons B) Based on the points of view you listed, draft an outline of a letter that supports creating the center, supports it with conditions, or opposes it. C) Write a letter to the administration, explaining your organization's point of view on the creation of the learning center. Be sure you have addressed the potential multiple point of view in your letter. If you are for the center, offer strategies to address the concerns of those who are un supportive; if you are against the center, address the concerns of those who believe such a center is needed. D) Understanding the administration's growing interest in serving distance students, respond to their concerns about how a "brick and mortar" learning center will serve the diverse student body, regardless of location.

Subject : Regarding Opening of Learning Center in the Campus

Respected Sir,

This letter is in context with the opening of a Learning Center offering Maths and English tutorials. With due regards I would like to bring to your kind notice that it is really an innovative idea of offering Maths and English tutorial classes in this era of advanced technology.

In order to keep pace with the change in technology and rapidly changing environment, providing online courses is an added benefit. It would attract more number of students and thus the revenue of the Institute improves. Moreover it would enhance the reputation of the institute in the job market.

The major concern for this initiative is that the space needs to be shared with the learning center to set up a classroom. The tutorial classes of Maths and English for learning center would be in the evening and thus it would not hamper the regular schedule of the classes and there would not be any issue on the space.

The tution providers need to be paid from the Students Services program and thus the students would get affected in the short run as they need to compromise on their Services program. However in the long run, once the learning center starts generating profits, the Students Services program can be compensated with even more activities and events.

Director needs to be hired and the funds need to be arranged for the same. This can be taken from the college funds as the college reputation and revenues would also enhance.

Thus, it can be said as a good initiative by the institute to set up a learning center and enhance the value of the institute.

Thanks & Regards

Yours Truly

Aishwarya Kamat
