Question

There are a number of key standards influential with cloud services provision (ISO/IEC, CSA , SOC, NIST SP, ENISA etc). Which two cloud services-related standards would you rate as being the most relevant to organizations in the sector you are currently employed in (or involved with)? Why those two? Explanation / Answer

Solution: -

There is a need of following standards so that the outcome must be appropriate, through standards both data and workload migration in cloud takes place in a systematic way. Standardization is mentioned or used in almost every field from user authentication in cloud to cloud storage. Since cloud service providers used different types of model, for that reason standardization must be followed. Here we will be describing two cloud related service standards:

NIST Standards: - National Institute of Standards and technology is nothing but a long-term goal which is used to provide guidance as well as leadership so that how cloud services can be used within private as well as public sector firms. The main goal of NIST is to shorten the adaptation cycle and also ensure cost-saving terms. Moreover, it helps in deploying all the application to the cloud and even emphasized on security of the data. NIST not only focuses on technology but also ensures the stability, portability, security requirement too.

ISO/IEC: - This standard actually helps in providing guidance regarding information security aspects when resources are getting hosted in cloud. It is really very effective, if you are implementing or starting to implement on the cloud thus giving a knowledge on cloud specific information securities. This standard helps both cloud service providers as well as cloud service customers regarding information securities. The cloud service customer must agree with the service provider regarding implementation of security roles and must agree with allocated roles. And on the other hand, cloud service providers must ensure that customer’s data security must be maintained.

These two standards actually give the entire overview of how security and migration can be done and implemented on cloud-computing. These standards will give you an idea regarding how or what type of services you are opting for and what amount of resources you require for your firm. Based on the standards all these services are categorized such that customers are satisfied with the services.
