4. The workplace is clearly changing. The batrier between work and home has been eroded and if people are going to have to be constantly connected, they at least want to use th own phones. Companies have quickly come to love consumerization, too: A recent study. .found that executives like the way it keeps workers plugged in all day long. And since workers often end up paying for their own devices, it can also help businesses cut costs What about you? Do you ever use your own phone for work-related activities? If so, what kinds of activities? Do you sometimes feel that your employer is taking advantage of the fact that you're "plugged in all day long"? Or do you feel that the tradeoff-at least you're allowed to use your own phone-is worth it? Do you sometimes take advantage of your employer- do you use your phone for personal business when you're at work?

Explanation / Answer

Earlier there was a trend that employers provided their own phone and paid the bill raised on that phone. It helped employers to get a dedicated communication between the employee and employer and client and employee that could be tracked or monitored. But, it increased the overall cost of managing these phones. Now, employers pay the particular amount of mobile phone allowance per month and let employees use their own phone. In my case also, I use my phone and I have been paid the monthly mobile phone allowance. Here, the employers use virtual numbers that are linked to the different mobile numbers. Now, my client calling these numbers, will get connected to me because my mobile number is linked with the virtual number and client neither know my personal mobile numbers nor I know the clients number unless it is shared with me. Further, wit this, the organization can track all the calls that have come to me through the virtual phone numbers (such as toll free numbers). With my phone, I perform, interaction with the clients, interaction among with people at different functions and reporting and interaction with the team and immediate supervisor. I don’t feel that employer is taking advantage of it, because I have the ownership of my phone and I am not going to give it for any inspection of calls, messages and any other activities performed on my phone. Further, It has liberated my of managing one more phone that is owned by the employer and if lost, they I can be held accountable.
I take calls that come to me, but I don’t interact with the people regarding my professional services that are other than the my job related activities in my office work hours. I promise to make a call back and I do it with my another phone number, once I get relieved from the day long work. Here, I make sure that my office commitment should not be compromised with my professional services that are offered on my spared time or holidays. Further, my professional services, don’t conflict with the business of my employers. So, after office hours, I make call back to these people, requiring my services.
Though, I take the calls of my family people any time, even if I am in the office as I have to balance my work commitment with the family commitment and my employers are fine with this arrangement.
