You have just been hired as a Human Resource Manager in a small, but rapidly growing organization with 160 employees. During the interview and selection process, the CEO stated that the reason an HRM Manager was needed was because there was an increase in customer complaints concerning errors in shipments of orders. Errors included incorrect products and quantities, as well as increases in defective products. The errors seemed to be random; in other words, customers did not know if and when they would receive a correct and complete order or one with missing and/or incorrect or defective products.

You have one non-exempt HR clerical-type employee in the department.

Obviously, this is an important problem for a growing start-up organization. Where would you start to determine what is wrong? What would you do to quickly, but effectively, correct the problem?

Explanation / Answer

As an start-up, i know that the capacity of our organization is low in paying higher salary or above the industry average people. After hearing the suggestions from the CEO , i came to realize that we are under staff as well as lacking in paying a satisfactory amount to the employees . I will adopt the practice of management typically known as management by walking around( MBWA) . It will provide me benefits in terms of feedback from the employees and their key challenges. I will even ask them for proposed solutions to these problems related to the customers.  

Incase of non-exempt employees, i will assure minimum wage plus overtime . Even , they will be given incentives and reward in case they will provide outstanding services and error less shipments delivery to the customers.  

I will implement a quality campaign which will motivate to the employees to do the best practices towards getting customers belief, loyalty and appreciation . The logistics and supply chain team will be given group task to ensure the shipments with error , exact quality products , right labelling , attractive packeging and most customer friendly behavioral setups within the organization.

I will select a candidate, if he will display the quality and good attitude towards customers satisfaction while mock questions asked to him . They will be given a case study in which they will be asked to answer and which will be customer focused .

Overall , i will organize training sessions which will focus to quality of services, customer centric approach, best practices of industry players and to have a right approach towards problem solving .
