Explanation / Answer

In my views, the patent system works with the objective to encourage technological innovation. Patenting helps in preserving an innovation done by an individual, so that others don’t copy and capitalize on the same innovation. As copying is not an option, the individuals try to find different ways of fulfilling their objective and thus innovation happens.

If the patent system is abolished, then the individuals will get the option of copying and imitating which they will capitalize upon as their birth right. The whole concept of innovation will be kept at bay because copying will be easier and a faster option. The thinking capacity of the individuals will also deteriorate in such a situation.

If we need to think about some alternative of patent system, the belief to prove one’s capacity will serve as the foundation to patenting. The ability to challenge one’s capabilities and come up with out-of-the box thinking will be another way that will promote product innovation. Another viable option for promoting innovation is the thought process to facilitate the state of living and aiding one’s life. If a person wants to make his or her life easy, he will think out of the box and will think of coming up with innovative solutions to facilitate the same.
