The purpose of this assignment is for you to apply everything you have learned in this course about diversity benefits and challenges, personal attitudes, and their impacts to a personal exploration and re-imagination of a core American myth. Your exploration will be both reflective and researched-based as outlined in the following instructions.
Write an essay (at least 1500 words) with an introduction and a conclusion in which you address the following topics. List any resources used in standard format at the end of your paper.
5. Describe the importance of this myth and your feelings about it to your personal identity. (4 points)
6. Explain how this myth influences your behavior and shapes your attitudes about others in positive as well as negative ways. Extend your explanation to include how this myth impacts American behaviors and shapes our cultural attitudes about others in positive as well as negative ways. Support your observations about the behaviors of others with statistics. (6 points)
7. Identify which cultural groups benefit the most and the least from this myth. Compare and contrast some ways in which this myth helps and hurts American society and its members. Support your observations with statistics. (5 points)
8. Describe how you personally would like to see this myth evolve so that it benefits the greatest number of people and explain your reasoning. (4 points)

5) Importance of Myths and feelings about it to personal identity:-
(i) Myths are the beliefs regarding some phenomenon that leads us to think and behave in a particular way. They are developed through our inculcation and perceiving things in some or the other way. It helps us to behave in a certain way that will ultimately help to identify a person. In other words, our personal identity is made through our beliefs and our beliefs are made through what we perceive and myths plays a very important role in perceiving things.
Example: People living in rural areas work hard than people living in urban areas. This example illustrates that we believe that people living in urban areas do not work so hard as people living in rural areas. This myth will make our belief system and we will perceive and behave in certain way which will ultimately describe our personality.
(ii) These myth helps in identifying people because they are the illustrations which people develop in themselves and which further helps in distinguishing among people.
(iii) Such myths clears cultural and behavioural aspects because these myths are related to mythology which clears everything related to why people from different culture behave in a different way.
(iv) When we talk about diversity, it is because of heterogenity among people based on age, beliefs, values, culture, learning, experience, perception, attitudes, personality and many more. Myths helps us to differentiate people based on their belief system which is further developed through the culture we are living in and this is how an individual identity is different.
6) Myths are the statements, illustrations and beliefs that we set as a standard in our mind and behave in a certain way.
(i) Myths help in changing our behaviour because of what we start believing in which will be depicted in our personality and when we react in a particular situation, that describes our attitude.
(ii) When we believe in the same myth as others, then we have positive attitute towards that thing or a person and vice versa.
(iii) Example- Americans are not bossy by nature. They have a very cool working culture. These illustrations make a person to have a positive attitute towards Americans.
(iv) Example- In America, they are a culture to work 3-4 days in week. People enjoy working as bosses are not dominating. When Indians will come to know this, they will be more than happy to adopt such culture. These statements or myths helps in developing an attitude in a person.
(v) When we talk about diversity, these cultural differences develop through our myths, have both positive and negative impacts.
Diversity helps in pooling the talents, enhances creativity and enlightens the organisational productivity.
It is through our myths that we face diversity
(vi) Diversity also results in forming different cliques in the organisation. Myths are the fourndations which results into forming different groups and not accepting divesity
7) Comparison and Contrast
(i) People accepting diversity and ready to face challenges are the most beneficial groups because they develop and understanding with each other and in any situation, they are ready to accept such myths and vice versa
(ii) Americans are highly professional. If these cultural differences impact their work culture, these will create a great impact in their organisation which will hinder their work efficiency.
(iii) People focussing only on cultural background will be the least beneficial groups as they have a myth that same cultural people together creates synergy.
(iv) Americans are highly cooperative. Having a non cultural belief or myth system, they are most efficient workforce as they believe in people from different areas creates synergy.
(v) People acccepting changes are the most beneficial groups while people not accepting changes are the least beneficical groups.
8) Myth and its reasoning:-
(i) Myths are our beliefs and these should not come in any way as an obstacle in our productivity. If we follow this, then we are at the greatest advantage
(ii) Myths are develop through the environment and culture we are living in. If people accept the changes in environment and culture, they will work in a coordinated manner.
(iii) In an organisation we face psychological isssues. These psychological issues are due to non acceptance of ideas, beliefs, values and myths. These further creates stress. In order to avoid such psychological stress, we should give chance to everyone to participate and come up with new ideas. These things will groom and individual and remove psychological stress which is for the betterment of the organisation.
(iv) We perceive things based on our experience, learning and beliefs. These cognitive process creates a picture in our mind and we behave in a certain way. This is how myth develops. In order the benefit people from such differences, there are various techniques involved:-
(a) Training
(b) Empathy towards each other
(c) Learning
(d) Tolerance
(e) Communication
(f) Understanding
In 1964, Civil Rights act made it illegal if someone discriminates based on colour, religion, age, race, etc
