Question
The same process you followed for the first article applies here, i.e. scan the business and/or marketing press for a current (within the last 2 months) article on some aspect of marketing. This could be branding or re-branding, advertising or other traditional promotion, social media activity, distribution strategy, etc. Your article can discuss a specific brand, corporate strategy or service, here in the U.S. or abroad.
Your review should quickly summarize the gist of the article followed by your own observations as to what the article means in terms of an impact on a specific company's marketing success/failure or a broader impact on marketing in general. Also, cite the source of your article.
Again, as way of example: From Fortune.com, Jun 6. Tesla recently announced another delay in its long anticipated Model 3. This was to be the "economical", "for the masses" electric car that was to be a major source of revenue for the struggling firm. How does a production delay affect marketing? The easy comment is that it pushes back the advertising and promotionschedule. More importantly it might dampen consumer interest in the car since it appears there has been a lot of hype and no product to back it up. This might cause Tesla to lose its position as First Mover to others developing e-cars such as Renault, BMW, Nissan and Volvo. It might also cause Tesla to miss the "window of opportunity" given the significant amount of hype about affordable e-cars and their failure to deliver one.
Explanation / Answer
As the Tesla model 3 is highly anticipated by the people, tesla is definitely being criticized for not putting up their Tesla model 3 in the market. As the electric vehicle market is highly volatile, late entry of the most affordable car from Tesla would definitely reduce the overall impact to the customers as competitors such as BMW and Nissan are specifically working too capture the same market segment. After the Tesla model 3 was announced, volvo also announced their electric car which is similarly affordable and has enough competitive features to compete with Tesla model 3.
As Tesla already has a very strong brand image and customer fan following, losing its first mover advantage could be very disastrous for the overall revenue generation. This type of approach by the company can negatively affect their customer base and made them to move to another brand such as Volvo or Nissan.
Possibility of losing the customer base can also reduce the share in the electric vehicle industry and reduce the impact of their overall serviceability.
