Question

1. In responses the paragraph below, share if you believe their arguments are sound. Use the literature to support your observation.

“P4P (pay for performance) programs focus on the price margin directly to motivate quality improvement. A typical P4P program rewards healthcare providers with bonuses for high marks on one of more quality measures, such as rates of preventative screening or adherence to guidelines for chronic disease management” (Kathleen, Richard, & Meredith, 2010). To me the easiest way to think of this, is like asking a kid to clean their room and promising an extra ice cream if the room is extra clean. These incentives drive providers to provide the quality to get the bonuses. As value-based reimbursement comes into play, it won’t be incentives, it will affect the reimbursement rates for providers. Humana has been able to lower costs for their members; “Human experienced 20 percent lower costs in total for 2015 for members affiliated with providers in a value-based reimbursement model setting versus and estimation of original fee-for-service Medicare costs using CMS limited data set files” ( Better Health, Improved Quality, and Lower Costs, 2018). Quality and safety is what reimbursement is based on as we move forward with value-based reimbursement, providers not performing well, will suffer when it comes to reimbursement. Providers and hospitals now more than ever, need to focus on safety and quality if they want to continue to be reimbursed at a higher rate

2. In responses the paragraph below, share if you believe their arguments are sound. Use the literature to support your observation.

The Joint Commission is the largest accrediting agency for healthcare facilities, being in business since 1951. In that time, they have witnessed and harnessed their power to focus on the ever-changing healthcare landscape to provide strict “gold” standards for practice settings. Their mission is to use these standards to provide excellent, safe, efficient healthcare for all. Given that their reach is world-wide, it is truly healthcare equity for all.

Their standards are developed by expert input from providers, consumers and government agencies, such as CMS ensuring accuracy and evidence-based information. New standards are added as they pertain to safety and quality of care with the assurance that it will contribute to positive patient outcomes(Joint Commission, n.d.). Not all facilities choose to undergo the rigorous accreditation process, yet it says to the healthcare world that we, as an entity, have extremely high standards regarding excellence in patient care. My practice setting recently had a successful re-accreditation survey which the approach was educational versus punitive while keeping with the strict Joint Commission’s standard of care. I am also proud to be a part of a facility that has ranked # 2 in the nation for excellence in rehabilitation care by US News and World Report(US News& World Report, 2018). The Joint Commission have worked tirelessly to improve the health, safety and outcomes of all patients, not only the ones seeking the lauded status of their accreditation

Explanation / Answer

Answer:1

Yes, we do believe that their arguments are sound as mentioned in paragraph: In the below paragraph it is mention that P4P i.e. pay for performance, that is the payment should be with respect to the performance carried out by the employee. This will create the right culture of performance in the organization. This will create right environment in the organization and it will motivate employees such that they will be highly influenced and will deliver their level best for their work, so that they will deliver better performance and in return they will get better returns or higher pay. This higher pay will be the key driver for the employee that they will deliver better services and will attempts to achieve high pay for themselves.

The better performance will deliver better quality levels in the organization, hence the P4P will help in achieving higher quality in the employee works.

The P4P approach looks to be more general because all human beings wants to have such culture so that they can deliver their best and they can earn higher pay for themselves. So ideally this looks to be very good approach for people.

This approach will create operational efficiency and effectiveness such that organization will be able to achieve higher productivity with this P4P approach. This will help the organization to optimize resources because the performance of resources will be good enough.

Answer 2.

Yes, we believe that their arguments are sound for the approach mentioned in the paragraph 2.

The Joint Commission is the largest accrediting agency for healthcare facilities, being in business since 1951. During this time, they have witnessed and harnessed their power to focus on the ever-changing healthcare landscape to provide strict “gold” standards for practice settings. Their mission is to use these standards to provide excellent, safe, efficient healthcare for all.

Since these are for the global world, hence they have try to explore world class approaches for the healthcare management at global level.

This commission is being in use in establishing higher standards of healthcare with higher quality and safety standards. This approach of proposing higher standards of quality and safety are good for the human kind and it will help to create better environment for the human lives.

These healthcare standards are being developed with various inputs from various people/agencies which are involves in the healthcare management. Thus based on rigorous review and evaluation, the improved version of standards are being proposed so that they will improve the healthcare management across the world level.
