The truth is that no amount of scalpel cuts, dresses or wigs can make a man a woman. All it can do is make him looklike a woman." Facebook removed the comment because it did notcomport with Facebook's Community Standards and placed a 24-hour block on postings by the senior. After Facebookremoved the block, the senior posted: "Friends: I am returning from a 24-hour ban from FB. Apparently Comrade Zuckerberg does not tolerate the inconvenient truth that no amount of scalpel cuts can make a man a woman." Facebookremoved that post as well, this time imposing a three-day ban Did Facebook handle this situation appropriately? As a person supporting the position of Facebook, I have to mention that while everyone has the right to express their thoughts and ideas, we also have the duty to be sensitive to people and their feelings. In this particular instance, many of use (who live normal lives) will never be able to comprehend the kind of internal conflict and turmoil a transgender person goes through. While, we cannot understand their conflicts, it is our duty to respect their thoughts and what they want to do with their body. One of the major responsibilities of a social media platform is to allow people to express their thoughts but also to makes sure that those expressions do not marginalize people who are different. The approach to inclusiveness begins with tolerance and empathy. Trolling a certain category of people online is not the way of doing so. In addition to building a responsible community, there are certain policies that need to be adhered to by Facebook and if a post was detrimental in nature, the organization has every right to take action on it. Every person has the right to speech and freedom to express themselves but that does not mean the right to marginalize a certain section of the community.
