LB.1: What Do I Value? Inst Listed are two sets of statements. The first list presents 10 terminal values. These are desirable end-states of existence. Think of them as goals that you might like to achieve during your lifetime. The second list presents 10 instrumental values. These are preferable modes of behavior, or means of achieving the terminal values. For each list, rank the statements according to how important each is to you personally. Score a “1” next to the value that is most important, a "2” next to the second most important, and so forth. Treat each list separately. Your values reflect what you think is important. There are, of course, no right or wrong values. This self-assessment merely gives you some directive insights into your value structure.

Explanation / Answer

In ethics value denotes, the degree of importance of some thing or action with the aim of determining what actions are best to do or what way is best to live or to describe the significance of different action. Instrumental values are permanent in nature it may vary from person to person. It comprise personal charecteristics and charecter traits. And in our personal life, terminal values are those things that we can work towards or we think are most important and we feel are most desirable- terminal values are desirable states of existance. As per the terminal and instrumental values given in the list I am giving my preferances as per the list-

Terminal Values:

1) Knowledge and wisdom, 2) Self respect 3)Happiness,satisfaction in life 4) Peace and harmony in the world 5) Security and freedom from threat 6) Lasting friendships 7) Pride in accomplishment 8) Recognition and wealth 9) Recognition from peers 10) salvation; finding eternal life

Instrumental values

1)Education and intelctual pursuit. 2)Being well-mannered and courteous towards other 3) Truthfulness,honesty 4) Hardwork and achievement 5) Self sufficient, independance 6) Helpful and caring towards others 7) Opend mindedness, respectivity to the new ideas 8) Assertiveness, standing upto yourself 9) Obedience; following the wishes of others 10) Dependaibility; beimg counted upon by others.

Citizens of democratic societies are often asked to make politcal choices that require them to balance one desired goals against another. How much freedom is one willing to give up in order to achieve more tolerant, moral or secure society? The choicdes that ctizens asked to make can difficult because they implicate conflicting principal or values. A tradition of research in political physcology suggests that value conflicts is common and consequential for the expression of political attiudes.

Philosophers have found it difficult that to identify grounds from which to adjudicate difficult choices between ultimate ends. Perhaps it is no wonder, then, that ordinary citizens are often thought to find it difficult to reconcile the conflicting claims of value conflict when making decision in any controversial issues.For the ordinary citizen, not schooled in the resolution of philosophical dilemmas, the choice may be equally difficult, equally inconcilable.

I define value conflict as occuring when a person endorses two or more that have conflicting implications for a policy judgements. I deal solely with conflicts between two values that have opposing implicatins for a single issues of public policy. When asked to give an opinion on an issue ir welfare spending. the person who views equality as more important than self reliance face an easy choice. He or she adopts a position on the issue consonant withthe endrosed value.

Overcoming the conflicts is always hard. Sometimes we don't know what to do to a make amends when we are wrong; other times, we struggle to forgive the opposit person. Conflict is complex and complicated and often it is very painful.

Admit when you are wrong-with no excuses: It is not easy to muster up the courage to say "I am wrong" . But if you know that you are wrong, it is essential to admit it . Refusing to admit a wrong can make a serious damage. We can correct our own mistakes by pacticing humility and vulnerability.

There is a catch : when appologize, you must be willing to say that you are sorry to making excuses for unacceptable behaviour or shifting any of the blame. Keep thing simple; it's best not to use any variations more than that "I am sorry".

Clear the air let it go: When you have had a disagreement - especially a major one-its' very important that you clear the air in a loving way. This process will look different .

Do something enjoyable: During or after confict, its' easy to withdraw from one another and "lick your wounds" so to speak. Do something enjoyable incident in the case of confliction between couple.
