Explanation / Answer

Author – Pat Mesiti

Title – Attitudes and Altitudes

Biographical Data for Writer – An Australian icon, an effective communicator and an inspirational coach. Pat is passionate about empowering individuals and businesses to chart their growth and achieve their full potential. He believes in the true form mentoring and molding the mindsets of an individual to achieve bigger goals in life. Pat combines his sense of humor with his enthusiasm to inspire his audience into action, adding value to many a lives he touches.

Synopsis of Work – In this book, Pat talks about the principle of leadership inside out. It explains how a leader develops and how he networks with the people around him. Pat specifically tries to inspire individuals to bring out the best within oneself. He has added specific quotes and anecdotes from wise industry experts to maintain the tempo. He specifically focusses on building relationships and achieving big things in life. The words of encouragement shared in this book will certainly lead people towards prosperity. To develop and improve yourself further, this book is the right step in the right direction.

Reflections/Critique/Recommendations – The book certainly works in its motto to inspire young, ambitious individuals to maintain the fire within and stop not till the goal is achieved. It surely inspires the true leadership traits within an individual and encourages them to trudge on a path never trudged along.

However, I feel it misses out on considering the intrinsic capabilities of individuals. The inherent trait in individuals is equally important. Inspiration without ability often loses out to achieve its objective. No doubt it provides the much needed push to identify the leader within and lead the way in an unprecedented way. However, it is easier said than done. The author fails to cover an exhaustive list of situations in which an individual can be. Often situations and circumstances inhibit the progress of an individual which I believe the author has not covered to a great extent.

Reasons why the book is useful for the course: The book is certainly useful from the course’s objective to inculcate a sense of leadership within an individual. It is important to overcome the fear within and achieve the objectives one is destined to achieve. From the course’s perspective, it helps in the overall attitude development of a manager which is of critical importance in the long run.
