Question
Orthodox Confucians claimed that Mohists would treat their own father as they would treat any old man. Mohists responded that they would treat any old man as they would treat their own father. What do you think? Should we treat everyone without exception exactly the same? Or is it right and proper to treat some people—like our family as opposed to strangers—better than others? Why? Why?Explanation / Answer
According to me, treating everyone equally is not always right. It is always right to treat different people differently as per the situations. This is because in the present world we cannot afford to be polite and empathetic with strangers as we are never sure about their intentions towards us.
As far as family is concerned, we should treat our family members with care, empathy, love, affection and be always concerned about them. But not all strangers be treated as we treat our family members. It is important to note here that those who are in need and those who require love, affection, care and are needy should be cared well and be showed empathy, as we show to our family members.
It depends from situation to situation as to how we treat the outsiders or strangers in the society. One technique or way of dealing with everyone cannot be applied all the time and need modification and variation from time to time. So sometimes it is good to treat strangers with love, affection, care, empathy, if we feel they are in need and require help. On the other hand, sometimes it is also good to treat strangers with less care and compassion as compared to we treat our family members.
