Question
The following three recessive markers are known to be located on the same chromosome in lab mice: h, hotfoot; o, obese; and wa, waved. Trihybrid females were testcrossed to produce the following offspring:
24 hotfoot, waved 173 waved
298 hotfoot, obese, waved 302 wild-type
4 hotfoot 26 obese
167 hotfoot, obese 6 obese, waved
Part A
What is the distance (map units) between ?o? and ?wa??
Enter your answer, rounded to 1 decimal place. Enter only the number; m.u. is included in the answer box.
Part B
What is the interference across the region that contains these three genes?
Enter your answer as a percent, rounded to 1 decimal place. Enter only the number; the percent sign is included in the answer box.
Explanation / Answer
from the data we can determine that
NCOs i.e. wild type = 302
& mutant =298
DCOs (double crossover) least number of progeny represent DCOs. i.e. hotfoot= 4 & obese, waved = 6
SCOs: o, h = 167
wa = 173
& o = 26
h, wa= 24.
thus, order of genes is: o-h-wa
distance between o & wa can be calculated by calculating distance between o & h as well as h & wa.
distance between o & h= 167 + 173 + 6 + 4/ 1000 X 100 = 35 m.u.
distance between h & wa = 24 + 26 +6+4/ 1000 X 100 =6m.u
thus, distance between o & wa = 35 +6 = 41
Part B:
coefficient of confidence = observed DCOs/ expected DCOs (observed DCOs = 4+6/ 1000= 0.01)
= 0.01 /0.35 X 0.06
= 0.01/0.021
= 0.476= 0.48
interference = 1- coefficient of confidence
= 1-0.48
= 0.52
