Question
I also need a 150 word response to this response:
I believe that environmentally induced stress would be the biggest factor in interpersonal conflict in my area of the business. We are in an ever changing environment that demands heavily on our body. We move over 18,000 pigs a day through my area and anytime you have people and animals there will be stress. The pigs are in a new environment and have no idea where you want them ot go. They just want to get away from you as fast as they can. We are governed by strict animal handling guidelines and under Federal State Inspection Service (FSIS). The inspectors are out in the barn 95% of our working day and are always auditing the process. We also have a third party auditing service that audits our area 100% of the day randomly. So needless to say we have to do the right thing 100% of the time or the plant can lose the federal inspection service and thousands of people could potentially be out of work. Needless to say we take the welfare of our animals coming into this facility very seriously. We have a very diverse group of employees in this area, The issues we have are usually from turnover. We do not have enough people to cover jobs resulting in 12 hour shifts for several people. This has since been increased by a freeze in the hiring department. We have four positions that need filled and no one coming in and jobs are not being allowed to be posted.
The union side is allowed to use their seniority per the contract and that in turn forces the lower seniority people to stay and work all the extra hours. This causes conflict within the team and more turnover. I would say that this is 50% of the issues I address weekly in my area. I have put together a schedule so that the overtime can be disbursed evenly for a team members and have the unions buy in. I have also set meetings to discuss the issues with our upper management team to get the jobs filled with general workers until they can come to a conclusion as to what they need to do within the facility. This has been the main reason for turnover in my area I believe as well. I have never been fully manned in the past year.
I believe if I was going to pick a second choice in what causes other issues within the department it would be incompatibility issues. We have had several people quit due to new owners bought the company in October, so we had several younger workers that have never had a job before coming in off the street. Several of them lack basic work ethics and they believe they are entitled to only work eight hours if that is what they were hired for. training for these positions should only take a person two weeks to learn now takes around six weeks for these young people. This in turn causes conflict with the workers that have been in this area for a long time.
Explanation / Answer
Answer:
The problem with the owner of the business is not only to get the jobs filled up but to manage the rising dissatisfaction among the employees so they are leaving the job for the better one more prominently. Large turnover of employees can only be overcomed by giveing them proper traing and orient them towards their jobs more rigoursly. This is the only option to deal with this situation.
