Watch the following sections of this 2004 PBS Frontline story: #1 – Wal-Mart’s Revolutionary Power (12:30 duration); #2 – Muscling Manufacturers (7:15 duration); and, #5 – Taking the Hits (15:25 duration). Answer the following question: Is Walmart good or bad for America and by extension for ethical globalization? Why? The well-written answer for the selected Case will involve some discussion of the following points: •The student should be able to quantify the issues on both sides of the question. •The student should integrate that analysis into the week’s subject matter. By building a power-base in American retail industry Walmart has the economic horsepower to engage in globalization.

Does it use that power to so engage in globalization?

Does it do so in an ethical manner given that Walmart easily falls prey to attacks on the ethics of its compensatory treatment of its employees?

Explanation / Answer

The corporation’s sheer size is difficult for most to grasp–it’s not only the largest corporation in the world for the past ten years, but also the largest corporation in the world. Wal-Mart’s impacts are far reaching and play as much of a role in effecting globalization, as globalization effects the company.

However, the effects of Wal-Mart’s operations extend past the border of the United States: similar to other American companies, Wal-Mart is shifting more work to India and China, two developing capitalist nations that provide highly-skilled and motivated workers for very low cost.so we can say that its been engaged in engaging manpower all over the world.

Wal-Mart is not good for America or for its economy ,because it forcing companies to do what they whawhat and not paying them a good amount for their product. They also treat workers poorly and do not give them a good enough pay. People are losing their jobs due to Wal-Mart closing down business.

It means that the life expectancy of local businesses decreases which is not good for economy..
