Explanation / Answer

Business process reengineering is the process of redesigning or recreating business process in order to dramatically improve productivity, quality, and cost. BPR targets the fundamental requirement of process and tries to eliminate or reduce the sub-processes those are inefficient in nature. New technology and IT aids in improving the process output at new level but if the process is fundamentally inefficient, then BPR fails. Before implementing the new technology of IT infrastructure, the process is changed at fundamental level, so that higher goals are achieved. Thus, if new technology is applied to inefficient process without fundamental changes in the process operation, the cost of the output will increase.

ANS: product or service cost will increase if new technology is applied to an inefficient process
