New hire orientation is "the process used for welcoming a new employee into an organization" (UMUC, 2018). New hire orientation serves several purposes. First and foremost, the orientation provides an employee or a group of employees with information about the company. The orientation can save a great amount of time, as it allows for information about company policies and procedures to be communicated in one fell swoop, rather than over multiple meetings. Orientation also serves as an easy way to welcome employees into the company and ease anxiety; especially when held in group orientations. Company's with orientations often find reduced turnover, as employees develop a clear understanding of the company itself and how the company operates. Start up costs are also reduced, as employees learn of various policies and procedures and can begin working faster. Orientations are an essential function within the company and set new employees up for success.

I totally agree on to the above post which mentions that Orientation process results into reduced turnover and helps employees understand the organizational culture properly. Orientation is a technique which is used by every organization. It refers to the act of making the new recruits' familiar with the organization and the culture which is followed in the organization. The new employee is made aware of his surroundings and with the policies and practices followed in the organization. The effects of orientation last for a longer period of time.

Inducing the employees these days is very important as it will help the employees blend with the organization and learn what is the culture being followed in the organization, what is he expected to do, whom he is expected to report to and how he is suppose to behave in the organization with his superiors and his colleagues. With the help of orientation, number of benefits can be enjoyed by the company as well as the new recruit.

Conducting orientation is not the responsibility of only one manager or only one superior. It is a collaborative effort conducted by all in the organization and steps are taken to welcome the new recruit and make him familiar with the organizational culture. There are three types of orientation

An organization cannot think of standing strong in the long run if it skips this phase of orientation. As not following orientation process will result into disorganized behaviour of the new recruits and will result into high turnover, also level of satisfaction will reduce and employees will not be able to gain clarity about the organizational culture.
