Recall that an Employment Brand is a marketing approach to recruiting, retaining and engaging employees. It is a way to advertise why potential applicants should come to work for the organization and why those who are already employed, should stay.
You read scholarly definitions of the concepts of differentiation of rewards, segmentation of the workforce, and employment brand. Using either the organization where you work or an organization of your own choosing:
a. Share what you feel is the stated or unstated employment brand of the organization.
b. Describe to the class what competencies are required by the organization that the employment brand is attempting to target.
c. If you were to guess what segment of the labor market the organization is targeting, what would it be?

Explanation / Answer
The organization that I have selected is Apple Inc.
a. The stated employer brand of Apple is that the employees will get a deep value proposition when working with the company and will be exposed to a culture that encourages innovation, out of the box thinking and simplicity as well. The unstated employer brand of Apple is that employees will be the key strength of the organization and they are the ones who will help the company achieve its goals and objectives in an optimal manner. Hard work and smart work will always be appreciated and rewarded.
b. The competencies that are required by Apple keeping in mind the employment brand that it is attempting to target are credibility, clear EVPs i.e. unique policies, programs, rewards and benefits that Apple offers the candidates and employees, and the ability to nurture and hone skills of employees.
c. The segment of labor market that Apple is targeting is the primary segment of labor market where applicants are eligible for white collar jobs. This segment contains a higher grade, requires good educational qualifications and seeks good wages and salaries.
d. In order to differentiate it from other employers Apple rewards its employees in a systematic manner that will truly satisfy and motivate its employees. Besides the usual 360 degree employee appraisal and feedback, promotions and salary hike etc, what differentiates Apple is that it rewards its employees for taking risks, for thinking out of the box and for developing new solutions. Employees at Apple are not punished for their failures and are in fact encouraged to innovate, develop new ways and methods of adding more value to their process and more value for the customers.
