Question
Almost every organization with more than 200 employees has at least one significant conflicting HRM practice, which undermines the total performance of the organization at least marginally—examples abound. Discuss one or more conflicting practices you have experienced and recommend one or more alternative HRM practices that could appropriately minimize, or even eliminate, the conflict. Explain in detail. Present your views in 200 words or more in your discussion post. Use at least two scholarly source to support your ideas. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts.
Explanation / Answer
One of the most common conflicting HRM practice is to "accomodate" aberrations in the HR functions of an organization if the origin of such aberrations lie in the high or mighty or those who matter. The long regarded policies suddenly succumb to vested interests of some influential people, and reincarnate themselves soon as if nothing had happened. The aberrations can be in from of a promotion "above the policy" ignoring more qualified, experienced and loyal candidates, or direct recruitment of an unqualified person who happens to be nephew of the Vice President, the list is endless and these events are not uncommon. Such incidents usually create dissatisfaction and frustration among the worthy and leads to deterioration of work environment and finally the work culture, besides the poor quality of work by the unworthy, that sets the organization back by miles.
To minimize or eliminate such practices, it is the top management that needs to show character. The policy of strict enforcement of HR regulations and policies and zero tolerance for violations is the only solution to prevent the occurance of "above the polcy" incidents at the workplace.
