Explanation / Answer
Database Management System (DBMS) is a system for creating and managing databases that store, structure, create, update and retrieve data for the programmers and users. Database design is the process of developing a detailed model on how the database needs to be structured considering specifications like storage space, logical structuring etc.
It is important that users are involved DBMS design process as it has three main elements the inputs for the combination of which needs to be provided by the user to build an efficient database. The three elements include - Data (to be provided by the user), database engine (that allows data to be accessed, modified or locked), database schema which defines the logical structure based on attribute level mapping. User inputs information around data, database attributes for mapping in schema etc.
