Question
I was looking at an experiment that shows the effect of tumor targeting Salmonella typhimurium A1-R preventing experimental human breast cancer brain metastasis in nude mice. The expeiment used 10 nude mice, 5 were used as the control - mice who didnt get the treatment and the other 5 mice were given the treatment, salmonella typhimurium. The research showed that mice without the treatment showed a growth in brain metastasis and died after the 10th day and those who were given the treatment showed a decrease in the brain metastasis and 100% survived well past the 17th day and then 80% lived past 20 days therefore the survival rate increased.
How would i go about the next experiment? Any ideas?
Explanation / Answer
Based on the given data,
You have confirmed that Salmonella typhimurium A1-R preventing breast cancer brain metastasis in nude mice. So, take the same Salmonella typhimurium A1-R to precede next experiment. Take the nude mice with and induce the cancer with different types of anticancer drugs individually i.e. each drug for one mice and all drugs for one mice. Maintain controls for each for each drug and multi drug treated mice too. Likewise, treat nude mice with Salmonella typhimurium A1-R and keep a control. Then continue the medication for certain time intervals, then compare the drug results and Salmonella typhimurium A1-R results with respective controls.
For example, I would recommend drugs like gemcitabine and evacizumab and their combinations too.
