Internal: Using Wendy’s Restaurant, imagine you are working in the human resources department based in the home country (the United States) and are tasked with communicating to employees in both the United States and one other country. To communicate effectively, you decide that different versions of the same type of communication are needed, containing the same essential information. Analyze this style of communication and provide justification for its use. Provide an example in which there were cultural differences and room for a possible breakdown in communication.

Answer: At the international level the cultures differ from each other and therefore the sense making in terms of communication differ from one country to the other. Wendy is a multinational company which operates in the different regions of the world. It has employees from the different regions of the globe who have different perspectives on communication. In such situation, the different version of the same type of communication which contains the same information is a good strategy. This strategy can help in communicating the right message to the audience in the way which is most suitable as per their culture. Therefore this strategy will be most suitable for Wendy’s at the international level.

There are many examples where the cultural differences have acted as a possible breakdown in the communication. There are examples that when multinational companies like Wal-Mart have simply translated their code of ethics in local languages like they did in Germany, the meaning was misunderstood because of the cultural orientation and because of which misunderstandings took place between the company and the local employees.
