The use of information technology for storing and managing an individual's health record has been increasing.Both the government and health care organizations are rapidly using it now-a-days.As the use of information health technologies has been rapid, the degree of their usefullness depends upon i) the degree of information delivery and sharing between authorized clinics of standard data and also on ii)providing the individuals with their health informatio data electronically and also iii) improving the health of public.
The helath Information technology thus includes the major buliding block terms such as:
1)Electronic medical records (EMRs): These are the health electronic records of an individual that are collected,stored ,managed and consulted by an clinical staff that is authorized in a particular single organization.
2)Electronic Health record (EHRs): Generally every doctor will be having the EHRs of patients.They are some times also can be referrred as electronic medical records (EMRs).EHRs is an health related information on a individual that can be collected, managed and stored by an authorized staff and confirms to nationally recognized interpersonal standards.
3)Personal health records(PHRs):A PHR is same like a EHRs, but expect what king of information is feeded into it.
it includes health care information of an individual drawn from multiple sources and it refelects life outside clinic.it includes the record of daily habits of a person like food intake, exercises etc.
These three are the record terms of health care information sysytem.
Now, the network terms used are:
4)health information exchange (HIE):According to the national recoginized standards this is the movement of health record between different health organizations for eg: the movement of an health infoemation record of an individual between Apollo hospitals to Star hospitall elctronically.
5)Health information organization:It is an organization that shares the health information according to natioanl recognized standards.
6)Regional helath organizations:This is an health organizations that brings the information of all stake holders present in an area and allows for exchange of information for improvement of the stakeholders health accoding to nationally recognized standards.It is also called regioanl health information organization(RHIO)
Major issues faced by the existing health information technologies:
1.Increased flow of data: It is due to increase of digital imaging technologies,incrasing mediacl records and taxing are placing more burden on the infrasturture of health informtion technologies.
2.Confusion on using terms:The health IT concepts should be in a way that the individuals must understand.
3.standards terms: The usage of common terms must be present by all policy makers.
4.Contracting: A better contact sytems between IT suppliers and its customers i.e, health organizations must be present.
5.Privacy and proper adequate storage of health information should be presesnt.
6.There should be proper communication between health systems.
