Based on this week's readings (Bateman, Snell, & Konopaske chapters and Mintzberg article) on organization structure, what do you think are the three most important conditions or factors that would lead a manager to depart from the basic functional bureaucracy model in the design/redesign of a whole organization or part of an organization? The various conditions or factors which can lead a manager to depart from the functional model of organizational design are:
A startup which is involved in development of cutting edge machine learning needs to have a flat organizational structure in order to encourage ideas and innovation to be generated and not being stifled by bureaucratic controls.
Another example would be that of an organization involved in marketing of various consumer goods. These kind of companies are typically structured in a division wise structure with decentralized decision making at a division level and organizational support from the headquarters.
