Why is transparency an important role in government and expand on the thought of Public Servant Motivation in personnel in a minimum of 100 words if you agree or disagree and why?
Federal Government Grant - an award of financial assistance from a federal agency to a recipient to carry out a public purpose of support or stimulation authorized by a law of the United States.
Local Government - Government unit that consists of counties, village, municipalities, school districts, townships, and special districts.
Public Servants - People who achieve internal satisfaction by making a contribution to a society in comparison to people that gain satisfaction by serving themselves and from monetary gain. They are often called to jobs in the public sphere by serving the greater good of society.
Citizen Participation – the act of government responding to, engaging, and involving the citizens that it serves which allows for them to have a "meaningful role" in government. This approach hopes to regain citizen trust of the government.
Transparency – Citizen access to information and facilitating their understanding of the governments' decision-making process. Freedom of Information Act is an example of this that allows citizens access to government documents and records.
Each of the terms listed above shows how the government works for the community and citizens, and methods that involve the citizens in decision making. Public administration is about involving the public as much as it is about serving the public. If people don't understand the reasons decisions are made they are not likely to engage in voting or advocating for certain policies and decisions. Citizen participation and transparency increase the likelihood of engagement of the community in government affairs which will hopefully gain trust and a future of more people wanting to serve in their community.
Public Service Motivation in personnel is important because it is the key to what gets public administration and policy moving. If those who work in the public service field are not motivated towards a purpose, they would not have the desire to work towards the greater good of society or perform their jobs well. According to the essay by Dr. Wise in the Stillman text, there are many contextual factors that can influence a person's motivation to serve the public, but ultimately it is part of a human drive to help others that may be greater when other human needs are met (Stillman, 2010). Some examples of serving in the public interest are police officers that work overtime during times of peak crime and that advocate for ethical practices in the field. Another may be a teacher that works with a child that needs extra assistance in the classroom during lunch. In addition to doing public service work that they are already expected to do, serving the public interest entails going above and beyond and some sacrifice for the greater good.

Citizen participation is fundamental to all democracies. However, citizen participation is not limited to electing officials rather it also entails holding their officials accountable and ensuring a responsive government. Therefore, it is important that citizens have access to the same information used by their government to make decisions.
Similarly government transparency is a mechanism that reduces corruption and provids a better understanding of how the government works. Openness, accountability and honesty define government transparency. In a free society, transparency is government's obligation to share information with citizens hold their public officials accoutable.
