Explanation / Answer

Differential association theory - through interaction with others , individuals learn the values , attitudes. behaviours and motives for criminal behaviour. Theory stresses the impact that others have on ones view of deviant behaviuor and law.EDWIN also suggested that even when on is of a mindset to commit a deviant or ciminal act , the social context of the situation must be perceived by the individual as an opportunity to commit the deviant or criminal act.

The use of the differentail association theoy is equivocal to values but only when there isnt' the perception of.a life threatning consequence involved For instance : someone who hasnt eaten in three days will steal someone's food for a very diffrent reason then 14 years old kid who is looking for thrill.

The other perspecive of the theory is that it doesn't take into account the specific personality traits that a person may have. people can choose to chnage their environment , even as childern to srruond themselves with people who feel that ciminal conduct is immoral. People can also be sorrounded by non criminal influences and choose to rebel against them.

REWARDS OF THE APPROACH

RISK OF APPROACH :

Explanations are similar and some what different because theroy is based on practical factors like the origin / the behaviour which forced the indidual to do crime wherever usually nodbody goes to the origin to the crime (which is different) i.e what matters is the person who committed crime and why . Taking example person who did not got anything to eat in two days can steal food. so though its. a crime but he was hungry so he took that decison.

FACTORS how people learn crime :

1) learning attitude towards crime

2)learning of specific criminal acts.

Now a days in India many crime shows are available on TV which is becoming more easy for people who are tending towards crime to learn new tricks or behaviours. Recently a group was caught as they have done the crime after the watchning a movie on crime and that also in same style so that is the learning which a criminal /behvaiour can take.

A person who is good in IT/Codes they start hacking websites just to earn more money so there is no origin only crime takes place as they are misusing their education/knowledge instead of using it for their work.

How people learn to crime

1) Criminal behaviour is learned in interaction with other persons in a process of communication.

2) That learning takes place primarliy in intimate personal groups and includes not only the techniques of committing crime but the motives and attitudes which accompany crime.

3)Differential association may vayry in frequency , duration , priority and a person becomes delinquent becasue of an excess of dedifnitions favourable to violation of law over definition os unfavourable to violation of law.

4)The learning process involves the same mechanism whether a person is learning crime or conformity.

For example if someone is hungry , they will be more likely to steal food or money so they can have their need for food satisfied.

I have tried to give all the details , Thanks.
