Summary of the passage :

Dr. Markus hofmeyr , the head of veterinary wildlife services for South african National parks and his team were by default involved with a permission crime problem that was harming the rhinoceros population within south africa's largest park. The onslaught for wildlife poaching acroos africa had not slow down since 2007 .Krugar national park was established in South Africa in 1898, first as a game reserve , IN 1926 it was proclaimed as a national park to protect the fast dwindling wildlife areas.By the turn of the century it was estimated that white rhinos were extinct in Kruger. Kruger national park coverd 7722 square miles , Since its establishment it had become known for its unrivaled wildlife diversity and easy viewing. When the demand for Rhinos Horn increased in the late 2000s much of he proaching took place outside the park on private and provincial game reserves.individual property owners had a hared time policing their own lan due to lack of resoucres and govt protection.o Over time the trend reserves and now was more effectively policed on private reserves . The war to protect the rhino against poachers was a continue evolving arm race between the crime syndicates and the kruger national park ranger services. The major usses of rhino horns from the end users perscpective was for carvings , recreational and traditional medicinal purposes. Although it has not been proven to have actual benefit. Rhino horns were powdered and then use to relieve pain from overconsumption of alcohol the night before. The main market however remains difficult to describe as the sale of horns is illegal in both china and vietnam so the industry is not transparent and is completely run by the black market. The process in which Rhino horn was illegaly poached , trafficked and traded can draw similar parallel to the process of trafficking and trading. For. eg Cocained is ilegal in US Market , crime syndicates must run in the competiive arena with high margins to meet the demand.Crime syndicates were a highly complex structure with multiple levels of a centralized management. Increasing the supply of synthetic horn in asia, in theory would reduce the demand of wild rhino illegaly traded from africa.

If you were able to remove the horn the demand to kill Rhino would reduce.Promoting the long term care of the park makes local stakeholders proad of their homeland and park.Farming rhinos were easy to protect becasue they were in small area that cna be well managed, similar to cattle feedlots. They were easier to secure far away from international border deu to the distance poachers have to travel from other countries.Civil needs to be behind the park to ensure public support. Without local community support , no long term solution will be found for the proaching problem. As head of vetenary wildlife services for SAN PARKS Dr. hofmeyrs primary responsibilty was to support SANPARKS management through a delivery of a professional service related to capture and veterinary care i n support of conservatin of all the species that live in 19 PARK in SOUTH AFRICA.
