(SEE PROF SUTTON'S PREVIOUS NOTATIONS RE THIS) Frank is the receiving dock supervisor for Cabinet Co., a company that manufactures metal storage cabinets. His job is to supervise the inspection, and stocking of components and materials used in the manufacture of the cabinets as they are delivered; and to so notify the accounting department so invoices can be timely paid. On June 1, the company received a shipment of casters used in the manufacture of rolling cabinets. This new shipment would not be needed for three weeks as there were plenty of casters located on the assembly line. The storage facilities where the casters would normally be placed were under renovation, and there would be no space to store this latest shipment of casters until June 20. Frank decided to leave the unopened boxes of casters in a secure and covered corner of the receiving dock. He did, however, notify the accounting department that the casters had been received. The accounting department paid the $8,000.00 invoice in time to earn the discount if paid within ten days. On June 20 Frank had his workers open the boxes of casters to inspect then and place them in the appropriate space in the storage facility. Upon inspection it was determined that nearly all of the casters were defective and unusable. This caused the company to default on several contracts for rolling cabinets as it ran out of casters before it could secure replacements for the defective ones. Cabinet Co. was able to replace the casters at a 15% increase in cost. Discuss Cabinet Co.'s remedies, duties and obligations with respect to the casters.

After looking the entire situation, we can say that some where it was mistake of Frank that he did not perform his duty which was assign to him of supervisor. The role of the supervisor is very critical in the organizations that look for business operational strategy.
Frank’s Duties
As Frank was supervisor of the company so it is responsibility of the frank to check each and every product’s quality, invoice, etc. Because of mistake of frank company has to suffer a lot which affect the main business of the company. It is accepted that while receiving casters from suppler there were no space at plant to keep it and also new storage location was under renovation at the same time. So here it was duty of frank to check the product whether quality is good or bad. Received quality as per invoice or not.
Remedies of the Cabinet Co
So remedies of the Cabit Co is when dock receiving the goods inside which always need to check with quality , quantity as per invoice and same report should be forward to account department for further payment release. It is responsibility of the guide or security of the company before they allow goods inside the plant they should have quality check of the product.
Lack of guideline and Rules Regulation
Company should have come up with strict guideline and rule regulation for receiving an dispatching of goods from dock and how to deal with account payment. Duties of account department are that before making payment to supplier he always has permission from supervisor with his signature and then report should be subject to account department for further process and subsequent payment will release of the supplier.
So major responsibility of the supplier in dock was not perform properly, he would be responsible to bear 15% replacement cost for caster or to get that same product at the same price from supplier. As this is very sensitive matter so company should take it very seriously and take immediate action. Company should also take care for the next time, this should not be repeat again.
