Use the questions and guidelines presented in class to acknowledge if the task will be delegated and explain your rationale. A Regulatory Agency just arrived at the facility for an audit. You are a Departmental Director and you have been contacted by the General Manager and QA Director. The issue is that you are currently in a Seminar off-site and it will take you one hour to arrive at the Manufacturing site. Would you get to the facility immediately or would you delegate the task to your functional Manager? You are a Manufacturing Director and there is a meeting conflict on Fridays. There are 2 meetings at the same time and you were invited to both. One meeting is for manufacturing investigations; the other meeting is related to financial plans, facility . . performance and back-order cralustionsrports You ned to delegate one meting and participate in one meeting, please indicate which meeting you will delegate and which meeting you will attend, explain your rationale.

Explanation / Answer

In the first case I would like to attend the regulatory agency myself and would not delegate this task to anyone, the reason behind the non-delegation of the task is that the audits by regulatory agencies are sensitive ones and me being at the position of departmental director can't afford to take that risk. I may delegate some tasks upon my arrival when I will be in a position to supervise the activities myself.

In the second case I would delegate the meeting related to manufacturing investigations and would attend the meeting on financial plans, facility performance and back order evaluations/reports. The reason for this is as a Manufacturing Director I know people in my department who can handle meetings related to manufacturing investigations and also this agenda is less important as compared to the other one. The meeting on financial plans will need more of my attention and I must know about the plans of management to strategize my plan for the manufacturing department. I also believe that my requirement will be more needed at the meeting whose agenda is financial planning and facility performance and thus I will choose this meeting to attend.
