Explanation / Answer

Ans: To describe the staffing policy we will select Walmart. Walmart is into the business from a longer time. They have their stores in most of the country and targeted markets place. Recruitment is the most important factor for success of any organization.

These approaches are involved in HR and recruitment process in International business. The HR has to recruits the right person for the right job, on the basis of the skills required and the willingness of the candidate to adapt with the organization’s culture. Lets understand these approaches..

(a) Ethnocentric Approach - The HR recruits the key position with the employees of the parent country, that is the same nationality as the parent company. Here the communication becomes more easier without no language and cultural barriers. At the same time hiring expatriates tends to be expensive compared to hiring locally. The morale of the local staff is less.

(b) Polycentric Approach - The HR recruits the key position with the employees of the host country. The locals of the host country know their culture better and hiring of locals is comparatively less expensive. The morale of the local staff increases. There is a lack of coordination & effective communication between the staff members of both the host and the parent company.

(c) Geocentric Approach - The HR recruits the most suitable person for the job irrespective of their Nationality. This approach is followed by the companies or firms that are truly global and they follow the integrated global business strategy. The main advantage is the international experience and the sense of unfair treatment reduces. But, the CTC and other allownces are too high.

I will choose Polycentric Approach when planning for a major international expansion.
Reasons :-
(i) It will increases the morale of the local staff.
(ii) Locals will know the culture in a better way, and we can get support from local Govt easily.
(iii) The hiring process will be cheaper and faster.

In the international market the primary reasons for expat failure are :-

(i) Ineffective strategic planning.
(ii) Pre-departure training and support.
(iii) Different cultures.
(iv) New responsibility at different locations.
(v) Family pressures and difficulty to overcome if the family cannot adjust.

In order to overcome expat failure the pre-assignment training to mitigate these factors will be :-

(i) Intercultural training wil help to inprove the adaptation process of the ebtire family.
(ii) Language training on local language.
(iii) Understanding ethics and detailed knowledge of culture to gain cultural fluency.
(iv) Respecting others cultures and ethics.
