Tourists visit areas of natural beauty and interest because of their pristine nature, however it is hard to keep places in their natural state whilst contending with hundreds of thousands of visitors at the site. Creating an environment that is both protective of the natural area and tourist friendly is a careful balancing act. As well as providing a state that protects the area, tourism attractions should also aim to do so in the most environmentally friendly manner, through the use of natural, renewable materials (Morrison, 2013 pg. 182) Kiama has attempted to protect both the tourists from the difficult volcanic rock and the environment they come to visit, through the use of viewing platforms and dedicated tourist areas

Sustainable tourism is kind of a contradictory phrase as tourists tend to visit places which are pristine and full of natural splendor and because of a large number of visitors, these places struggle to keep intact their natural surroundings and environment. In order to protect the area and make it attractive for tourist, a fine balance have to be maintained. The protection of an area significant from the viewpoint of tourists should be done in a way that is environment-friendly and sustainable. In this regard, the efforts of Kiama is significant as the attempt has been made to protect both tourists and environment that attracts these tourists through the construction of dedicated platforms and tourist areas.

As evident from the various stages of the PRICE model, the DMO of Rome has correctly understood the important part that sustainable practices play in ensuring well being of the local community and the tourists. They have ensured that necessary measures be implemented to cater to the requirements of all involved parties.
