"Netiquette"
Interactions in an online classroom are in written form. Your comfort level with expressing ideas and feelings in writing will add to your success in an online course. The ability to write is necessary, but you also need to understand what is considered appropriate when communicating online. The word "netiquette" is short for "Internet etiquette." Rules of netiquette have grown organically with the growth of the Internet to help users act responsibly when they access or transmit information online. As a student, business person or potential entrepreneur you should be aware of the common rules of netiquette for the Web and employ a communication style that follows these guidelines. Of course you can find a great deal of information on this topic on-line.
Rules of Thumb:
Be considerate. Rude or threatening language, inflammatory assertions (often referred to as "flaming"), personal attacks, and other inappropriate communication will not be tolerated.
Never post a message that is in all capital letters -- it comes across to the reader as SHOUTING!
Use boldface and italics sparingly, as they can denote sarcasm.
Keep messages short and to the point.
Always practice proper spelling, good grammar, punctuation, and composition in all course emails and reflection of your student and work ethic.
Do not write in “text code” when emailing your professor. Proper business form emails are expected.
Keep in mind that threaded discussions are meant to be constructive exchanges.
Remember that your emails are all saved throughout the duration of the course and archived with SPC.
Be respectful and treat everyone as you would want to be treated yourself.
If you receive an upsetting email or post “cool off” before you respond.
Spell check!

Explanation / Answer
The basic etiquettes required while communcting online is known as netiquettes. Since almost all the online communications are in written form hence essential writing skills are necessary.
1)Assessment of the rules : The rules of thumb list down the most basic netiquettes required while communicating online. Indecent attacks and violence should be avoided. Generally the communication must be done in normal fonts and should avoid using all caps or all italics unless necessary. Spelling and grammer check should be done appropriately. Shortcut codes or text codes shall be avoided when communicating professionally. Lastly every writing should be respectful.
All these basic rules help in better communication since in most of the cases writing is associated with the personality of the person, hence one should utilise these rules to avoid any misinterpretation.
2)I do not disagree with any of the rules specified since all are essential parts of basic netequittes.
3) There should be certain additional rules which could be included in the list. Some of them are:
A) It is essential to properly identify oneself in the message by providing adequate signature and name in the message so that the receiver properly understands everything.
B) Every message should have proper subject line
C) Every message should be kept consice and to the point.
D) Respecting other person privacy.
4) The biggest challenge of electronic communication :
1) Every message is saved and can be used somewhere by interepreting the words differently.
2) The expressions or the body language is not visible in electronic communication and hence sometimes the communications might not be effective.
3) Sometimes people react in the heat of the moment and respond to emails which backfires them and hence it is important to sort issues by talking face to face or on telephone.
4) There is a real concern of security issue. People share a lot if data over electronic media which might be stored or transferred to third party without consent. This is closely interlinked to ethical issues as well. Some very private or sensitive data might be leaked.
The most recent Facebook example where lots of personal data was passed to third party without consent is an example of what electronic technology could do to us.
Hence it is crucial that basic etiquettes should be observed in online communications similar to what we observe in real life.
